Our Story
The Ted Warthen Center Foundation is a tax-exempt non-profit organization recognized under section 501(cX3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It was organized exclusively as a charitable organization with the sole purpose of financially assisting individuals diagnosed with a terminal illness who are in hospice care, and which now also gives aid to suitable service organizations in the community. This tax-exempt status means the Ted Warthen Center Foundation is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.
Through the generosity of Cedar City, Utah native and philanthropic businessman John Edward “Ted” Warthen and his family trust, a legacy was established in 1998 by building a state-of-the art care facility designed for terminally ill patients. However, with changes in health care, regulatory demands and the economic environment in 2008, it was voted by the Board of Directors that the 12 bed facility be leased to an assisted living care group, and then, in 2021, was ultimately sold.
With the proceeds received from the sale of the facility the Foundation now provides financial aid to indigent individuals diagnosed with a terminal illness who are in hospice care. The Foundation also identifies and financially assists worthy charitable organizations serving Southern Utah communities so they can provide more consistent and expanded services.
